Highway 75 Accident MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A tragic crash on Interstate 75 Tuesday morning left two people dead and two others injured after a police pursuit ended in a head-on collision.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a dark-colored sedan around 10:08 a.m. near mile marker 190 on I-75 northbound. The vehicle fled, prompting a chase that quickly escalated. Authorities say the fleeing car crossed the median into southbound lanes, where it collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver and passenger in the fleeing vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the struck vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital in Macon. Additionally, debris from the crash hit a third vehicle, injuring that driver, who was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved may have been stolen from Orange County, and efforts are underway to coordinate with local authorities there.
Traffic delays stretched for hours in both directions as crews worked to clear the scene. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
